๐ Born on February 29?
Leap year babies (leaplings) celebrate on Feb 28 or Mar 1 in non-leap years. Legally, most countries count March 1 as their birthday in non-leap years.
Why Do We Have Leap Years?
Earth takes approximately 365.2422 days to orbit the Sun. A regular year has 365 days, so we're short by about 6 hours each year. After 4 years, that adds up to roughly 24 hours - one full day.
Without leap years, our calendar would drift. After 100 years, we'd be off by 24 days! Seasons would slowly shift - eventually July would be winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
The leap year rule: A year is a leap year if divisible by 4, EXCEPT century years (1900, 2100) must also be divisible by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 and 2100 are not.
